I’m always looking for websites to explore jobs with/for my clients. CareerZone was recommended to me by a colleague. The site links to jobs in California, but they have some really great resources on the site that anyone can use.
You can explore the site using text only, graphics or flash (I’m hoping that means it’s accessible!). In addition to searching occupations, there’s also a section where customers can assess themselves in order to choose a career that’s more in line with their interests.
Please visit http://www.cacareerzone.org for more information.

I was thinking the other day about some of the things I enjoy during my work week. Tut’s Notes from the Universe came to mind. I was referred to this website a couple of years ago by a colleague. Each morning, Monday through Friday, I receive a short, personalized inspirational message from “the Universe.” They are quick reminders about life and the power we have in it, especially to effect change.
Sign up is free, and you can choose the days you receive messages. In the high stress field we’re in, it’s important to find those little things that make us smile

I’ve been referring to this website so much late, I thought I’d better do it here as well! This is an excellent resource for job search preparedness. The site covers just about every topic needed for successful job placement – assessments, resume writing, interviewing skills, first days on the job, job stress, elevator speeches, and so on.

I’ve been on a bit of a resource kick these days. This resource is geared toward veterans with disabilities. America’s Heroes at Work was developed by the U.S. Department of Labor and addresses the employment challenges of returning veterans living with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It’s designed for both employers and workforce development professional as a link to information and tools to assist returning service members seeking employment.
As a former veteran, this site was of particular interest. It also has presentations & training tools, fact sheets & reference guides and success stories.
You can find the site at: http://www.americanheroesatwork.gov

The U.S. Department of Labor recently launched their redesigned website located at: http://www.disability.gov. The website was formerly known as disabilityinfo.gov. The new site has a multitude of resources on disability-related issues, programs and services. It’s also been updated with new social media tools, including a blog and a Twitter feed – in case any of your want to follow.
Although the website focuses on Americans with disabilities, it’s also for parents of children with disabilities, employers, workforce and human resource professionals, veterans, educators, caregivers and many others. In other words, if you’re on our site, it’s most likely for you!
Keeping the resources coming!

I was recently contacted by Tim Moore, the owner of My Disability Blog, a blog dedicated to information about Social Security Benefits. I checked out the site, and was very impressed with the extensive amount of information on Social Security benefits, especially on applying for benefits.
I’ve included Tim’s blog under the Blogroll section if you’d like to check it out. It’s listed as My Disability Blog. You can also find it at: http://disabilityblogger.blogspot.com/

I recently did a training on job retention with my colleague Laura Ware from Corporation for Supportive Housing. I was amazed to find out that so many people don’t know about the Job Accommodation Network – affectionately known as JAN. The JAN website is your one-stop shop for reasonable accommodation solutions. They have information for both individuals and employers. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to check it out. I’ve used both their website and their toll free number on a variety of occasions and have found both to be extremely helpful.
You can visit JAN at: www.jan.wvu.edu or call them toll free at: (800)526-7234 (Voice), (877)781-9403 (TTY), or (304)293-7186 if you’re calling locally or outside the United States.

I wanted to share this resource with you. It’s a blog written by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) that has all of the latest information and news about the ADA Restoration Act of 2008. For businesses, service agencies, and people with disabilities – this has been a HOT topic. The site also has a great overview of the act that I’ve attached here. It’s 4-pages long and much easier to read than some of the other documents I’ve ran across.
Here is the link to the blog: http://adarestoration.blogspot.com/. I’ve also included it in on the Blog Roll.
